It's Surgery Week!

Weird how life gets in the way sometimes.  I took some time to write up a post Monday morning in between a my 7:30 AM test and my 9 AM class.... but naturally I got distracted.  Here's where my mind was on Monday...
--------
"Happy Monday? Monday’s are never happy.

Yesterday, I studied from 10 AM-1:30 AM for a Food Animal Exam that was this morning at 7:30.  At 1:30 last night/this morning I decided that if I stayed up any later I might vomit from sleep deprivation.  Bear must have been channeling my exhaustion because he decided last night was the perfect time to vomit inside my shoes.  Oh the joys of being a pet parent ;)

Life has been crazy the past week, but what else is new.  Last week I had my first Surgery Lecture Exam on Monday, a mock surgery on Wednesday, and a Theriogenology Exam on Friday.  I decided Friday night I had to take the night off from studying before I lost my mind and spent the whole evening watching Big Bang on the DVR with the hubs :)  I ended up paying for it on Saturday when I realized how I had 18 lectures over food animals to cover in two days.

Unfortunately there is no time to rest this week!  Today I get my first “official” surgery patient.  Junior Surgery Lab consists of spaying and neutering dogs from local animal shelters.  We get great practice and the dogs get a much needed surgery - it’s a win-win!  I’m really hoping for a neuter - it’s a lot easier to remove testicles than it is ovaries and a uterus :) Luckily, I had some great experiences this summer and I’m feeling quite a bit more prepared for my surgery than some of my classmates.

Wednesday is surgery day!  I have the best surgery group and I couldn’t be happier!  I am the first head surgeon in my group and can’t wait to finally get to do some hands on work :)"

And that brings us to today... Tuesday.  TOMORROW is Surgery Day!  We received our patients on Monday and it looks like I will be doing a spay (removing the ovaries and uterus) on a sweet, sweet old girl.  I've already fallen in love, bought her toys and treats, and am trying to figure out a way to keep her.  She will be up for adoption sometime shortly and I would love to find her the best home in the world.  Just going to throw it out there - she already knows how to sit and she so calm and well-behaved... so if you're looking for a dog....... I know one that would make a phenomenal pet :)

Even though tomorrow is Surgery Day I don't get to spend all my time preparing for my surgery.  I also have a test in my Pain Management elective on Thursday.  It has been surprisingly more difficult than I expected.  I thought electives were supposed to be an easy A?

No time to rest this weekend - Urology test on Monday!  Whew.  Then I finally have a whole week to study up before my next test.  And maybe catch up on some sleep in there ;)

Happy thoughts and prayers are gladly accepted - for all the upcoming tests and especially for my surgery on my sweet pupper-doodle tomorrow :)
